Original Wax Fabric The original wax fabric is also referred to as “oilskin” and “heavyweight wax”.
This is really the backbone to the Driza-Bone range and is featured in the “Classic Wax” category – many other fabrics have come and gone over the years including Durapel, Drizapel, Summerweight, Fortress to name but a few but the original wax has always remained the same and true to its roots. The original wax garments are currently available in traditional brown or olive (other colours that have previously featured have been black and navy)
The signature oilskin cloth is a sturdy 100% cotton fabric which has been coated with Driza-Bone’s uniquely formulated oil and wax finish, which gives the oilskin its distinctive weatherproof and breathable character.
The original wax garments can be re-proofed with Oilskin Reproofer; for further information please refer to our re-waxing guide.
Always store your waxed garment in a dry, well-ventilated area. Do not place in a cupboard or plastic bag for long periods of time, otherwise it will become mouldy. If your beloved coat has become mouldy, Driza-Bone recommend hanging it in full sun for a couple of weeks; if the garment is still mouldy after this time, hand-wash with pure soap and reproof with the DC21 Driza-Bone Oilskin Reproofer.
