Le Chameau logoWebury's Le Chameau Boots & Wellies Buying Guide

Which Le Chameau Wellies Are Right For You?

We realise, if you are after a pair of wellies the considerable range from Le Chameau can seem a little overwhelming. The purpose of our buying guide is to “walk you through” the Le Chameau range to find the most suitable welly boots for your requirements.

Over the past couple of decades Le Chameau have really stamped their name over the “premium” welly boot. All of their boots are still handmade using techniques dating back to 1927 and they all come with a two year warranty.

The Le Chameau collection can be split into different categories according to the end use. We are UK stockists of the:

Le Chameau Sporting Connoisseur Collection which includes wellington boots designed for all disciplines, including shooting and outdoor pursuits.

and the

Le Chameau Country Life Collection which features boots designed for country walking and gardening.

We are confident whatever your demands are from a welly boot, Le Chameau will have a boot to perfectly meet your needs. Typically the wellingtons are either available in a women’s fit or a men’s fit.

An All-Purpose Wellington Boot

For a good “all round” welly boot with standard jersey lining for everyday wear i.e. walking the dog, pottering around the garden or tending to livestock there are two main contenders:

Ladies Le Chameau Boots: we recommend the Le Chameau Country Lady which is available in marine (navy) or vert (green) and in sizes 36-41/UK 3.5-7; at £85 this boot is great value for money and is a feminine slim fit boot with a bound top, buckle detail to the calf and features the iconic Le Chameau logo to the front. The Country Lady has an all-terrain grip sole to offer excellent grip. A recent addition to the range which has a little more detail is the Le Chameau Manoir boot £110 - offering similar qualities to the Country Lady; jersey lining, calf buckle, feminine shape and all terrain grip, but this time with a two tone leg detail. The Manoir lady boot is available in marine/noir combination - black foot with a navy upper and in sizes 37 - 42/ UK 4 - 8. We also have a stunning cherry/noir coming in Autumn 2016.

Mens Le Chameau Boots: the Le Chameau Country Vibram Jersey boot is a brilliant all round, smart looking wellington boot. As the name would suggest this boot boasts a Vibram sole unit to offer an unrivalled grip - at £100 there is a lot in this boot. Lined with Le Chameau’s house check lining and a bound top, finish the classic green welly - available in sizes 41-46 (UK 7- 11)

A Welly For Work

If you are after a boot with a little more weight behind it, for more demanding jobs such as agricultural work, where it will be put through its paces (sorry!) on a daily level the Le Chameau Ceres (£110) is the Rocky Balboa of Le Chameau wellies! Le Chameau have teamed up with Michelin to create a great looking rugged boot. The sole is developed with the same structure as a Michelin tyre with ultraflex technology: grip, comfort and resistance. The Ceres is lined with the house check jersey lining making it light in weight and comfortable to wear for long periods of time. The calf fitting allows for larger calves for comfort and is available in sizes 41-46 (UK 7-11). Based on the success of the Ceres, Le Chameau introduced the Ceres Soufflet (£125) - the same boot but with the addition of a rear calf gusset.

A Gardener’s Boot

For the gardeners amongst us Le Chameau have developed a boot that no green fingered enthusiast should be without - recognising the full length wellington is often too hot and cumbersome, Le Chameau developed a rubber Chelsea boot. The Colza Chelsea (£65) available for men and women is a neat ankle boot with elasticated gusset for ease of putting on and taking off, but it’s real “piece de resistance” is the addition of a spade pad to the sole unit or could it be the unique tap to clean the sole unit? The 3mm rubber plate spade pad ensure the Colza Chelsea is fit and durable for the gardener and will reinforce the shank part of the foot to not only protect the boot but also the foot. Available in Le Chameau’s traditional green or cherry for ladies. The popular ankle boot is also available as a Colza Sabot gardening clog (£55) in what Le Chameau describe as a gardening clog, however we feel it is more of a shoe than a clog. The Colza Clog shares all the same features as it’s ankle counterpart but with a lower level of protection - some would refer to it as more of a gardener's galosh/galoche. Available in a ladies fit size 36-40 (UK 3.5-7) and in a men's fitting 41-16 (UK 7-11) both in green. A great all year round gardening ankle boot and shoe.

A Cold Weather Welly Boot

If you’re after a boot with the addition of warmth for the colder Winter months, Le Chameau have a range of wellingtons to suit. Neoprene has been used in rubber boots for a long time and is a proven insulator which is also incredibly comfortable to wear thanks to its 3.5mm sponginess (neoprene is often characterised in Le Chameau Boots by a blue lining).

Ladies - the women’s range of Le Chameau is one of the only premium welly boots on the market with a true ladies fit boot; a narrower foot, a fitted ankle and a shaped calf achieve a great fit as well as a great looking women’s wellington boot. The Le Chameau Giverney Neo (£140) is just that with the addition of neoprene. A stunning looking, sleek welly this is a good all rounder and in navy blue is super stylish as well as being suited to walking thanks to the all terrain grip. The iconic Vierzonord welly boot is also available in a ladies fit and is one of our most popular welly boots and is Le Chameau’s brand leader. The Vierzonord boot (£170) is taken from Le Chameau’s Sporting Connoisseur range and was intended for driven shooting, but it’s great looks and attributes propelled this as being “the welly boot to own”. We’ll talk about the Vierzonord later but for now, a great women’s neoprene lined boot available in Vert Vierzon (green) and Marron and in sizes 36-41 (UK 3.5-7).

Ladies there is another option for keeping your feet warm and that is the Le Chameau Country LD Fourree (£135) - offering the same qualities as the jersey lined Country lady boot (sleek design, trim to the top, decorative buckle and an all-terrain grip. The advantage of the Fourree is the natural wool lining throughout the foot and the upper leg. The Fourree lining is a good all year round boot - whilst it is insulating and will protect you from the cold as low as -5 it is also comfortable to wear up to 5 degrees centigrade. Many people find neoprene too warm in the milder Spring and Autumn months. The Le Chameau country Lady Fourree is available in classic green or black and in sizes 36-41 (UK 3.5-7).

Gentlemen - for you there is also a host of options to ensure your feet stay both warm and dry. The first is a relative newcomer to Le Chameau’s collection, arriving in 2015. The Le Chameau Anjou Evolution Neo wellington boot is taken from the Country Life collection and is a great all-purpose welly boot. Offering exceptional value for money at just £100 for a premium neoprene boot it has been very well received. An uncomplicated design with reinforcements in key areas, a mono garden grip sole and 3.5mm full neoprene lining. Available in green and in sizes 41-16 (UK 7-11).

The iconic Le Chameau Vierzonord wellington boot (£170) is also available and as we mentioned is one of Le Chameau’s best selling wellington boots which was first created in 1965. The handcrafted neoprene lined Vierzon is synonymous with country life, perfectly balancing functionality and style. A stunning looking welly boot you can’t go far wrong with this boot - designed for the shooting market the Vierzonord is fully lined with 3mm neoprene and has a gusset to the calf which can be fastened with a snap buckle for an improved fit. The Vierzonord has a shank reinforcement for better arch support - the reinforcement to the sole provides a more rigid and stable sole which allows greater movement to the top of the foot. This in turn reduces muscular fatigue and offers more fluid and comfortable walking. Available in sizes 39-46 (UK5.5-11) and in the traditional Le Chameau green.

A Welly Boot For Shooting

If you’re an avid driven game shooter, a rough shooter, a wetland shooter, a beater, a picker-up or have any connection to the shooting industry the one wellington which dominates this industry is the Le Chameau brand leader the Vierzonord (£170). Designed for the shooting industry but adopted by all outdoor enthusiasts (including royalty alike) the Vierzonord really has become the welly of the 21st century and is the best selling Le Chameau wellington in the UK. Available in ladies fit sizes 37-41 (38cm calf) and a mens fitting 39-46 (43cm calf) and now in a choice of two colours, Vert Vierzon and Marron. The Vierzonord really does have it all, a 3mm neoprene lining for winter use, an expandable waterproof calf gusset and copious amounts of style. This boot is also available in an XL calf fitting (sizes 39-51).

The second most dominant wellington for the shooting industry is the Le Chameau Chasseur Neo (£255) (formerly the chasseurnord) - based around the Chasseur, this is the neoprene lined version of the full zip rubber boot. The advantages of the full zip are numerous but we mainly hear of customers who have high arches and struggle to get their foot into a conventional welly. The neoprene Chasseur provides unparalleled comfort courtesy of its adjusted fit.

The Chasseur Neo leads us nicely to the Chasseur - created back in 1970 this handcrafted rubber boot is a little piece of luxury. The Chasseur wellington (£340) is fully lined in thick, supple full-grain fine calf leather. The choice of a leather lining transforms the wellington into a fully functional four season boot. Once again the full length zip makes the Chasseur welly one of the easiest rubber boots on the market to put on and take off. The sole has a reinforced shank to allow greater movement at the top of the foot and reduce muscular fatigue. A dual density all terrain grip means this wellington will outperform many lesser wellingtons. The classic leather lined Chasseur is available in a ladies fit (37-41) and a gentlemen's fit (41-46). Both ladies and mens are available in the classic Vert Vierzon and we are excited to launch a new super elegant black Chasseur for the Autumn-Winter 2016 (pre-orders are being taken).
